If he needed to stay the night somewhere he'd be able to toss in essentials and would be set. That said, it's not so big that it's too bulky. He's traveled twice since he received it at Christmas and it is sturdy and is going to hold up very well to his frequent trips. I would definitely recommend this laptop bag to others. It was very well priced and has a nice feel to it. The only thing that we can say is wrong with it is how heavy it is empty - so even more so full. But the shoulder strap is great with the extra padding. Definitely would say YES to buying this bag. The material used for the exterior of the case seems to be very rugged. It looks very nice (as it almost looks like leather) but it is less likely to tear or gouge than leather. My only concerns are the wheels and the "pop up" handle used to roll the case. The wheels squeak more than I would like. I also wish the handle extended a few more inches, which would make for easier "toting." Finally, I wonder if the pop-up handle is as rugged as the remainder of the case. I have a good 10 minute walk over sidewalks between two of the classes I teach and have been using it for 3 months. Here is my evaluation: Good Very spacious inside compartment The top folds over twice, then the handle sticks through the two flaps and it clicks shut with two buckles. Large front pocket, fits my netbook. Smaller "organizer pocket" in front for pens, pencil. Very stable, the wide stance means it does not tip over easily. With handle down it is stable standing on its own. Handle is sturdy. The biggest compartment is very stiff, so it is easy to root around in it and look for stuff. Bad: The file folder holders (which are detachable) are useless. You can hang maybe 3 file folders on them, they always come off and they take up a lot of room. The downside of that bag was lugging it around. Usually I would put the laptop in the filing pocket and carry books in the other side. A bag is very personal to me, almost as personal as the laptop itself, and frequently used if not daily. It has to do the job. This new Solo case has one outstanding feature--the wheels and handle. I had a lot of trouble carrying the previous bag with lots of contents--it was too heavy, hard to pick up and put down, and the shoulder pad on the strap was shredding after a while (little black specks of rubber on my shirt). This new bag at first turned me off due to the bulk and the "squarishness," but I am getting used to it.
